CHENNAI: The Tami Nadu government has relaxed the restriction for the 17 industrial estates, including Guindy and Ambattur, in the Greater Chennai police jurisdiction to resume operations with 25% of their total workforce from Monday.
The government, however, restricted the industries from engaging labourers from containment zones and also instructed the industries to comply with the standard operational procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The government has taken the decision after considering the representations from the industrial estate manufacturers association, which sought the government’s approval for resumption of the industries, according to a statement from the government.
The industries outside the containment areas can operate from Monday following the SOPs, particularly of maintaining physical distancing and checking of the temperatures of the labourers before allowing them to work.
The government has also advised labourers above 55 years to avoid returning to work, besides instructing the employers to disinfect the worksite twice a day, ensure labourers wear facemasks and clean the toilets in the worksites with disinfectants every two hours.
