Home minister Amit Shah speaks to all CMs, seeks their views on lockdown | India News

NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Thursday spoke to all chief ministers on the lockdown in force to contain the spread of Covid-19. He is said to have elicited their views on the way ahead after the fourth phase of lockdown ends on May 31.
Shah’s discussions with the chief ministers are likely to shape the Centre’s anti-Covid-19 strategy in the days ahead.
Sources indicate that the Centre may essentially leave it to the states/UTs to decide on the curbs post-May 31, barring a limited ‘national’ list of prohibited activities such as international passenger flights and reopening of schools and colleges.
Shah’s consultation with the chief ministers come against the backdrop of Cabinet secretary holding a meeting with chief secretaries earlier in the day to review the Covid-19 situation. The meeting was attended by the municipal commissioners and district magistrates of 13 worst-affected locations including Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi/New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata/Howrah, Indore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur.
