Pakistan round-up: Ex-Pak PM tests Covid positive, US blogger’s rape allegations and more

Pakistan has recorded more than 100,000 cases of coronavirus, health authorities said on Monday. The death toll has also surged past 2,000.

With the rapid surge in cases, hospitals warned that they are running out of beds to treat patients.

Pakistan – and neighbours India and Afghanistan – have lagged behind Western nations in virus tolls, but experts warn a lack of testing or accurate reporting in rural areas could be hiding true figures.

Meanwhile, the country’s former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and incumbent railways minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad have tested positive for coronavirus. At least four lawmakers, including a provincial minister, have died due to coronavirus in Pakistan.
