PS5 Console Design Revealed, Digital Edition Announced

Sony has given us a look at the PS5’s controller before, but we now finally have a look at the console itself, as well as an all-digital, disc-less version of the console called the PS5 Digital Edition. No price or exact release date was announced – both versions of PS5 are due to arrive in Holiday 2020.The curved design features a white shell with a black inside segment. It is safe to say, that this is unlike any console we’ve seen before. And, before you ask, Sony has confirmed that, yes, it can be laid horizontally, as you can see in the slideshow below:

Two versions of the console are available, the ‘regular’ PS5, and the PS5 Digital Edition, which does not have a disc drive and will be purely for digital download games.

A post on the Sony blog explains how the two versions will differ: “The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.”Sony also announced a suite of matching hardware accessories to come alongside the new console. Those include a Pulse 3D wireless headset, an HD camera, a media remote, and a DualSense charging station that allows charging for two controllers.

Earlier this year, Sony debuted the DualSense, the PS5’s new controller with a suite of new features meant to offer players a new level of interactivity with next-gen games. The Xbox Series X design, conversely, was showcased by Microsoft at The Game Awards 2019.
