MEA warns Pakistan over two missing Indian officials | India News


NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Monday summoned Pakistan‘s Charge d’affaires to India and issued a demarche over the “disappearance” of two Indian high commission officials in Islamabad, according to sources.
Earlier, the Indian high commission in Pakistan had said that two of its officials are missing and that the matter was taken up with authorities in Pakistan.
According to news agency PTI, the two Indian officials have been arrested.
In its demarche to Pakistan Charge d’affaires Syed Hyder Shah, the MEA demanded that the two officials along with the official car be returned to the high commission immediately, the sources said.
The MEA also made clear that there should be no interrogation or harassment of the officials.
According to the sources, the Pakistan envoy was told that the responsibility for the safety and security of the concerned diplomatic personnel lay squarely with the Pakistani authorities.
The incident came days after two Pakistani officials at Pakistani high commission in New Delhi were deported for espionage activities in India.
