The Upload VR Showcase provided us with a look today at what’s next for virtual reality, with a wide variety of upcoming VR games and experiences. From PSVR to Oculus Quest and beyond, the show lifted the lid on plenty to get excited about. Below, you can catch up with all the announcements, from new game reveals to exciting updates and DLC.

Solaris: Offworld Combat

The developer of Firewall: Zero Hour has shown off the first gameplay from its next project, Solaris: Offworld Combat. This 4v4 arena game is, as the title suggests, a sci-fi FPS with a competitive sports flavour. Think of a frantic laser-tag control point game and you’re in the right zone. It releases this August for Oculus Quest and Rift, and later in 2020 for PSVR.

Panther VR

Wolfdog Entertainment has announced that its Metal Gear Solid-like stealth action sandbox game, Panther VR, is available now on SteamVR in early access.

Onward

Downpour Interactive has announced that Onward, the mil-sim tactical VR shooter influenced by the likes of ARMA and SOCOM that is currently available on PC, is now in development for Oculus Quest. No date was announced, but it is “coming soon”, and more details will be revealed later this month.

Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife

With Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 just a few months away, it’s the right time for a World of Darkness universe VR game. And that’s exactly what we’re getting in Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife from Fast Travel Games. We’ve only got a tease of this new VR horror game, where you play as a spirit of the dead, but gameplay will be revealed in August this year.

Phantom: Covert Ops

nDreams has revealed a new trailer for Phantom: Covert Ops, the VR stealth game that releases on Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift on June 25. Most importantly, the trailer features the voice of David Hayter, the man behind the original voice of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid. For Phantom: Covert Ops, he’ll be playing the villain, General Zhurov.

Star Shaman

A brand new game from new studio Ikimasho, Star Shaman is a “space exploration and spellcasting” roguelite game coming to SteamVR, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Quest. Featuring planet hopping and easy-to-play-hard-to-master gameplay, it releases this summer.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

TWD: Saints & Sinners is one of our favourite VR games. We gave it a 9 in our glowing review, but it seems like what we saw back at release isn’t everything. A new mode, The Trial, is coming, and it puts a more arcade-like slant on the game’s grisly, high-impact combat. The Trial is a horde mode which unlocks all the game’s weapons and pits you against waves of zombies and scores you for every kill. Dubbed The Meatgrinder Update, it will be added to Saints & Sinners this July for all platforms.

The Rig

A short teaser trailer for The Rig has been revealed, featuring an ominous score and cold space station environments. Despite the sci-fi setting, it’s a murder mystery game with some noir-ish elements. Subtitled ‘A Starmap to Murder’, it releases June 26 on SteamVR.

Spaceteam VR

An update from Spaceteam VR has revealed that mixed reality support is on the way, as well as additional languages, an enhanced lexicon with new words and phrases, and additional control panel setups – including a theremin and whack-a-mole – to introduce new mechanics to games. This content update will be provided free of charge later this year.

Traffic Jams

A new trailer for Traffic Jams from Little Chicken and Vertigo Games, in which you play a traffic controller at a busy crossroads, has revealed the game’s innovative multiplayer mode. This couch-based party mode sees up to four other players control traffic using their mobile devices, which the VR traffic controller player then needs to react to in-game. It’s got a little bit of a Job Simulator vibe with things going wrong, such as a meteorite crashing into the street. Traffic Jams releases this September on Oculus Quest, PSVR, and PC VR platforms.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun

Operencia is a classic-style dungeon crawler in the guise of games like the original Bard’s Tale and Legend of Grimrock. It released as a regular game earlier this year, but is getting a VR overhaul soon for Oculus Quest and Rift, SteamVR, and PSVR.

Area Man Lives

A new trailer for Arena Man Lives has announced that it will release in 2021 for SteamVR and Oculus Quest and Rift. This quirky game casts you as a radio DJ, who’s put into an odd position when a listener calls in claiming he believes that you can lead him to his destiny.

Lonn

The latest trailer for Lonn shows off plenty of neon-soaked cyberpunk action, in which you take up a sword and slice your way through deadly cyborgs. It’s coming soon to PC VR platforms.

Where Angels Meet

AVCV Games showed off a trailer for Where Angels Meet, a timely exploration of what it’s like to grow up as an African American in the US. While it was originally released in 2018 for Oculus Rift as part of the Oculus Launch Pad program, as studio head Micah Jackson says, now seems an important time to discover (or rediscover) its message.

Agence

Agence is described as being neither a film or a game, but an experience in which you “interfere” with the lives of tiny creatures living on a small planet. Developed as a co-production between Transitional Forms and the National Film Board of Canada, it combines AI and user agency to produce a real-time narrative. Each of the creatures has developing AI based on reinforcement, and so each of your interactions helps teach and develop them. It’ll be available in VR, but also on mobile devices and PC.

Gravity Lab

Gravity Lab is a puzzle game based around building machines that deliver streams of balls to an end destination. It was released back in 2016, but it’s coming to Oculus Quest this year.

Trial By Teng

From the developer of Form, Trial By Teng is a VR adventure set in the 18th Level of Hell. Coming to SteamVR and Oculus Rift, it features a variety of quirky puzzles set in the depths of damnation.

Cosmophobia

A VR roguelike set within the industrial tunnel-like interview of a sci-fi spaceship, Cosmophobia is coming soon to Steam VR and Oculus Rift. From the developer of Dreadhalls, the new trailer shows off some of its puzzle mechanics and a short demonstration of how to deal with a deadly turret drone using only a door and a crossbow.

Ghost Patrol VR

A combination of Luigi’s Mansion and Ghostbusters, Ghost Patrol VR sees a team of players take down spectres by firing their coloured beams at the correctly shaded ghosts. This one is coming to VR arcades worldwide, so expect to play this only when social distancing measures have eased up.

In Death: Unchained

In Death, the roguelite VR shooter set in a procedurally generated medieval world, is coming to Oculus Quest in July as In Death: Unchained. Because you’re not chained to your desktop anymore. Get it?

Low-Fi

A cyberpunk shooter from the maker of Technolust, Low-Fi is giving off serious Blade Runner vibes in its latest gameplay trailer. Shooting, exploration, and piloting a flying car among the dark tower blocks of a futuristic city seem to be the key components of the experience. It’s coming to SteamVR and PSVR, and can be played in early access right now on itch.io.

Gnomes & Goblins

Gnomes & Goblins is a VR game created in collaboration with Jon Faverau, the director of Iron Man and The Lion King. Coming soon to PC VR platforms, it looks to be a charming fantasy adventure featuring cute little goblins in a forest.

I Am A Man

Upload highlights another older but significant VR experience with Derek Ham’s I Am A Man, an experience that takes you back and allows you to experience the events of the US civil rights movement in first person. Released as part of the Oculus Launch Pad program, it is available to play for free.

Vertigo Remastered

Vertigo is a story-based VR shooter originally released for HTC Vive in 2016, which transports you to an underground facility filled with dark secrets. Vertigo Remastered is an upgraded version of the game, releasing this July free of charge for owners of the original, and for $24.99 for new players.

Trover Saves The Universe

Trover Saves The Universe, a bizarre comedy adventure game from the co-creator of Rick and Morty, released last year on pretty much every platform you could care to mention. But on June 18 it finally lands on Oculus Quest, allowing you to play without any pesky wires.

Pistol Whip

Cloudhead Games provided a look at the 2020 roadmap for Pistol Whip, starting with a PSVR release coming on July 28. Shortly after in August, the Heartbreaker Trilogy will be added free of charge to the PC and Oculus Quest version (a PSVR release will be later), which adds a “chilled out” experience over three scenes that’s inspired by games such as Sayonara Wild Hearts. Finally, in Q4 the first of a two-part update called The Concierge will land, which features a cinematic action campaign with new enemies, weapons, scenes, and mechanics.

The Walking Dead Onslaught

No gameplay was shown, but Norman Reedus swung by the stream to say hi and remind us all about The Walking Dead Onslaught, the official VR video game based on the AMC show. He reprises his role as Daryl Dixon for it, and recorded his lines in a VO booth he built in his basement.

Blaston

The first gameplay trailer for Blaston reveals an intensive 1v1 dueling game in which you grab weapons floating around a tiny arena, and each one provides unique mechanics. “Never stand still” says the trailer, and with guns that fire bullet-hell like patterns, we can see why. It’s coming this fall.

Vacation Simulator: Back To Job

Vacation Simulator is back with a DLC pack that echoes developer Owlchemy Labs’ first VR hit, Job Simulator. The Back to Job DLC expands on Vacation Simulator’s resort theme with a variety of career-based puzzles and activities. It releases this fall on SteamVR, Oculus Quest and Rift, and PSVR.
