FAKE ALERT: 2015 photo from Nigeria shared as bodies of Indian soldiers killed in Galwan clash

A Facebook page by the name of ‘KASHMIR THE NEWS’ posted an image of dead soldiers linking it Indian soldiers killed in Galwan Valley skirmish with China.

Another Uttar Pradesh based Facebook user Akhlak Khan posted the image and wondered how many Indian soldiers would China kill in a war if it can kill so many in just a localized clash. He accused the BJP government of being “robbers”, who made Indian public unconscious through “intoxication of religion”.

A Times Fact Check reader too shared the photo with a claim that the Modi government is hiding the actual number of Indian casualties. The reader wanted to know if the picture was authentic.

The image is from Nigeria and was taken in 2015.
Using reverse-image search on Google, we found a blog by the name of Nairaland that carried the exact same image. It was posted on November 30,2015 and captioned as ‘105 Soldiers Killed By Boko Haram Maybe Buried Secretly By The Military’.

We found another post from the ‘ thebiafratimes’. Titled ‘NIGERIA: BUHARI SACRIFICES 105 NIGERIA SOLDIERS TO ARM BOKO HARAM’, it carried the same image in its story.
Times Fact Check has found that a 2015 image from Nigeria is being shared with a false claim that it shows bodies of Indian soldiers killed in barbaric attack by Chinese Army in Galwan Valley.
