New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday approved the proposal of CBSE and ICSE to cancel the remaining board examinations for class X and XII which was scheduled from July 1 and allowed them to declare results by July 15 by alloting marks on the basis of assessment scheme.
A bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar expressed satisfaction over the scheme framed by the boards and allowed them to notify it.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for CBSE, told SC that the board’s decision is pro students and that they students should not be forced to opt for the examination within stipulated time after declaring the results as contended by a group of parents. He said that students will be allowed to take a call on appearing for the test whenever the board decides to conduct exam.
The ICSE board told the apex court that it agreed with the scheme framed by CBSE but the only difference is that it will also give option to both class X and XII students to take the test if it is conducted in future.
Both the boards assured SC that results will be declared by July 15.
