NEW DELHI: Swarms of locusts attacked several areas in Gurgaon on Saturday catching residents off guard. The city administration had issued a warning on Friday of a possible attack by the crop-eating desert locusts, after a swarm was sighted in the Mahendragarh district.
The administration had issued advisory for residents to keep their doors, windows shut and keep utensils handy to make loud noise in an event of an attack.

India has been battling its worst locusts outbreak in decades which has now affected several West and Central Indian states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan Punjab and Haryana.
India has brought the locusts under control at 399 locations in five states and has placed an order to buy 60 new insecticide spraying machines, two government sources said.
Authorities have used specialist vehicles and fire engines to spray insecticides in an area of 55,542 hectares in the western states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, central state of Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, and Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the north.
